Using Dorico Pro since version 1 from MuseScore and I've never looked back. Depends on how much time you want to devote to learning the folds of its design. It can either be a great investment for a student composer or another obstacle in your development. It can be of great asset to you! But BEWARE. If you’re upgrading from muse score, it’s a definite ascent in quality between the 2 as someone who has followed your exact path of notation softwares history (Musescore to Dorico Elements) (Things like dynamics being SUPER unaligned and genuinely looking like a jig saw puzzle, the systems/staves “automatically adjust for collisions” which actually means it just JJJJACKS up the spacing between your staves and touch have to go into your set up mode and tinker away at the settings to make it look.like it was made to be read. Dorico pro comes with an engraving mode option that makes your score editing for cleanliness and precise design super great! However since dorico elements does NOT have that.prepare to be doing a LOT of loopholes and LASER FOCUSED score editing in order to make a high quality score that can be given to a player or submitted to a jury of any sort. YOU MISS OUT ON ENGRAVING OPTIONS SUPER HARD. But sometimes missing out on divisi, being able to insert a video next to your sheet music so you can score it, etc. It has less features than pro! Which is a given, duh.

But either 1.) expect to be googling and going onto the steinberg forums A LOT to find out how to do certain things or 2.) dedicate a chunk of your time to REALLY sit down and learn the ins and outs of it

I honestly feel like I’m working at maybe.50% efficiency of what I could be doing with learning the full capabilities of dorico. It has a pretty sleek interfaces with actual color in tasteful places that make a writing session less.oppressive!

the interface is pretty! Now this might seem like an extremely shallow opinion! But if you’re sitting at your computer for hours a day makinf music.you don’t wanna be staring at the lifeless grays and beige of finale and Sibelius. (Although, if you were going to REALLY invest in good ORGANIC INSTRUMENT playback, get note performer- it’s only like 10 bucks a month for pretty great realistic sounds) It is absolutely a great asset to you if you’re the type WHOS concerned with making a good playback. I actually have submitted pretty great products to my colleges in electronic music from the Halion Sonic SE Instrument library. If I were to guesstimate.I’d say there’s at least 200-300 sounds to play with, with options in the symphonic realm of actual instruments, special FX and weird textural things, and a strong arsenal of synth pads, leads, basses and RHE such. Access to the Halion Sonic SE library, which holds a GARGANTUAN amount of VST and MIDI instruments with adjustable mixer/effect options for each sound.

So many features obscures in layers of just searching and having to crack the code of the software you’re using. Honestly? It can feel.EXTREMELY counterintuitive.

I work have been working in Dorico elements 3.5 right now for about a year pretty comprehensively.
